Description
Visit the family winery 100 Cepas and taste wines from León
You can get to know this small vineyard of one and a half hectares of prieto picudo and albarín, both native varieties of León, through a visit to this charming family winery. The production of
Bodega 100 Cepas
is very exclusive and made by the family members themselves.
Instead of automating processes, they try to do everything “by hand” so as not to lose the essence of what was once done to produce wine in Los Oteros, an area with a great winemaking tradition.
They will show you their winemaking room, where they house their small machinery to carry out the winemaking processes involved: labeling machine, bottling machine, encapsulation machine, wooden press, etc.
Next, you will pass through its first subway cave. It is the same as it was a century ago, without electricity or pavement. They are fortunate to preserve a fantastic original press beam, approximately 8 meters long, which was used to press the wine in the past. The rest of the processes that were carried out in the past will be told to you there. You can’t miss it!
You will then be directed to the next subway cave. Here, they age their wines in French and American oak barrels and where you can taste the wines in the process of elaboration, which depending on the time of the year of your visit, will have more or less aging.
And they will reach the final phase. What for many is the best, its 3 elaborations will be tasted, first the 100 Cepas Albarín white and then its range of reds, the 100 Cepas with 11 or 12 months in oak and the 100 Cepas CRIANZA with more than 20 months in oak, both 100% prieto picudo.
And finally, the wines, protected by the León DO, will be accompanied by a small pairing of typical products from León.
