A viewpoint from where you can see El Plantío, a group of 141 wineries and 25 wine presses excavated in limestone rock. They were mostly built during the 19th century, although the first records of the existence of vineyards in the area date back to 1201.
The following will be followed by a visit to High PointThe 130-year-old vineyard, divided into small plots of goblet-trained vines, is located at an altitude of almost 1,000 meters, one of the highest in the region. Ribera del Duero at the height limit for the cultivation of the vine as a result of adverse weather conditions in the valley.
And to finish the wine tourism in Ribera del Duero, La Roza, a vineyard composed of 2.29 hectares distributed in 19 plots of 165 years old, within all of them, three plots of 0.24 ha and 689 vines stand out for their quality. It is located in a clearing in a holm oak and scrub forest with vines surrounded by aromatic plants that are 190 years old.
It was doomed to disappear until, from Dominio de Atauta Winerya recovery plan was initiated to maintain this wine heritage, In the La Roza recovery plan, it was necessary to carry out actions such as fencing off the plots to reduce damage from the different animals that inhabit the valley or to progressively incorporate organic matter into the soil. During the visit we will learn more about how this vineyard has been brought back to life and we will see these centenary vines up close.
After visiting Valle de Atauta, we will continue with a brief tour of the winery to learn first-hand how it works. Once you have seen the winemaking process, you will proceed to the tasting.
The tasting is divided into two parts, in the two Dominio de Atauta projects. First, the La Celestina project with a style faithful to Ribera del Duero: La Celestina Crianza and La Celestina Vendimia Seleccionada. And secondly, Dominio de Atauta and Parada de Atauta with a particular style, marked by the vineyards of the Atauta Valley, all accompanied by Manchego cheeses made in Quesería 1605, a small artisan cheese factory located in Herencia, Ciudad Real.
The best way to understand their wines is through the vineyard and for this reason, a visit to their winery includes a tour of the main sites in the valley and direct contact with its nature and culture.
